MANUU pays tribute to Dr. Pranab Mukherjee, Condolence Meeting held

Prof. S M Rahmatullah, Vice Chancellor in charge, Maulana Azad National Urdu University has expressed his deep sorrow over the demise of the 13th President of India, Dr. Pranab Mukherjee and paid rich tributes to the extraordinary services of the late leader. Dr. Mukherjee in the capacity as the President of India was the fourth visitor of MANUU.

In a condolence meeting held today at 2.30 pm at conference hall, glowing tributes were paid to the departed soul on behalf of university administration, faculty, non-teaching staff and students.

Prof. Rahmatullah also readout a condolence resolution. He reminded that Government of India awarded the country's highest civilian honor BHARAT RATNA to Dr. Mukherjee in 2019 recognizing his invaluable service in political and public life. Dr. Mukherjee started his career as political science teacher and wrote various books beneficial for political science students. He also served as a journalist. Many universities, including Dhaka University, Calcutta University, Jordan University and Al-Quds University in Palestine, have awarded him honorary doctorates for his outstanding services, he informed. In addition, he also received many awards at the international level. The late leader led several key ministries at the center between 1973 and 2012. In the survey done in 1984, Dr. Pranab Mukherjee was ranked among the top five finance ministers in the world, he added. Enhancing the performance of our educational institutions at world level will be a befitting tribute to him, Prof. Rahmatullah remarked.

Prof. Siddiqui Mohammad Mahmood, Registrar in-charge, in his condolence statement, mentioned that Pranab Mukherjee never compromised on principles and has left an indelible mark on social and national life. He not only believed in democracy but also practiced it, Prof. Siddiqui remarked. Dr. Mukherjee as a president was concerned about raising the standards of our education as he believed that education was the best mean of revolution. The results of his efforts are visible today, said Prof. Siddiqui. With his demise, India has lost a great politician, intellectual, unparalleled administrator, philanthropist, he added.

Mr. M. G. Gunasekaran, Dr. Mohammad Kamil, Prof. Mohd. Shahid, Dr. Mohd. Yousuf Khan, Mr. Azhar Hussain Khan, Mr. Shamsuddin Ansari and others attended the condolence meeting with all the precautions and preventive measures in the wake of Covid 19. Meeting ended with 2 minutes silence as mark of respect to the departed leader.
