Why Muslims still behind Dalits and Adivasis? - Asks Prof. Thorat

Seminar on “Status of Socio-religious groups in India” held at MANUU

Hyderabad:

“Why religious minorities like Muslims still behind Dalits and Adivasis in jobs, higher education, housing and other areas. SC and STs have got reservation and could find better ways in getting education, jobs and all other public benefits”, Said Prof. Sukhadeo K Thorat, Chairman, Indian Institute of Dalit Studies (IIDS), New Delhi & Former Chairman, University Grants Commission  while delivering online keynote address today on the topic “Why Inter-group inequality still persists?”. Prof. Syed Ainul Hasan, Vice-Chancellor preside over the inaugural.

The  Seminar “India @ 75 and status of socio-religious groups in India”  was organized by Department of Economics, Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) in collaboration with IIDS, New Delhi & Roxa Luxumburg South Asia (RLS). This was the second dialogue under Democracy 2022 dialogue series.

Dr. G C pal, Director, IIDS also presented his message to the seminar.

Prof. Thorat  while discussing the area of intergroup inequality that persists even now, said that in India the problem of discrimination is more in the private sector than at the government level. He advised MANUU to take up studies in the areas where Muslims lack in India. Exclusion Studies centres can play important role to undertake studies in Dalits, especially among Muslims in India & other religious minorities. Gap between various religious minorities can also help us to understand the problems of backwardness & exclusion in India, he added.

Prof. Ainul Hasan said that MANUU has been looking for opportunities for equal and inclusive development. He asked Prof. Thorat to guide the University for future  research and development.

Tauqueer Ali Sabri, RLS shared his interest to collaborate with MANUU and also provide fellowship to PhD fellows to travel abroad supported by RLS through a selection committee.

Earlier, Prof. Farida Siddiqui, Dean, School of Arts & Social Sciences & Coordinator, Seminar, delivered the welcome address and also briefed the idea behind having this dialogue series.

The Book “Reading Minorities in India: Forms & Perspectives” authored by Dr. KM Ziyauddin, Assistant Professor & Co-ordinator seminar was also released on the occasion. Dr. KM Ziyauddin convened the inaugural and proposed vote of thanks.

Prof. Vinod Jairath, formerly Dept. Of Sociology, HCU chaired the session “Socio-economic status of Dalits in India”. Prof. Aseem Prakash, Dr. Prashant Kain, Dr. R. Thirunavukkarasu were the panelist. Prof. Danish Moin, Head, Department of History, MANUU chaired the session “Status of  Religious Minorities in India”. The panelist Prof. Tanweer Fazal discussed about muslims in Pre-independent India.  “Why Muslims are gradually getting deprived? Is it due to reservation to other communities in India or lack of resources to Muslims.” questioned Prof. Amirullah Khan whereas the other panelist Dr. Salah Punathil puts questions of identity and rights of Minorities in India. The session “Socio-economic stauts of Adivasis in India” was chaired by Prof. Afroz Alam and Prof. Shahid Raza. The panelist were Prof. Ajailiu Niumai, Prof. Ramdas Rupavath, Prof. Kham Khan Suan Hausing. Dr. A Nageshwara Rao, Dr. Ziyauddin, Dr. S Abdul Thaha, Mr. Mustajab Khatir were the moderators for technical sessions.

Prof. Sukhadeo Thorat also chaired the concluding session. Dr. Shabana Kesar, Mr. Madhu Chandra, Mr. Tauqeer A Sabri, Prof. Kancha Ilaiah were the panelist.

Online Hindi Workshop held at MANUU

Hyderabad :

The Hindi Week activities organized by the Hindi Cell of Maulana Azad National Urdu University concluded on September 23, 2022. Hindi week celebrations was inaugurated on September 14 on the occasion of Hindi Diwas.

Dr. Seema Verma, Professor, Hindi Teaching Scheme, Ministry of Home Affairs, GoI delivered an online lecture “Official Language Hindi Policy, Rules, Acts and Implementation” in the valedictory session. Prof. Syed Najmul Hasan, Chairman of the University Rajbhasha Implementation Committee presided over the lecture.

Dr. Shagufta Parveen, Hindi Officer, Hindi Cell, MANUU read out Official Language Pledge to make every possible effort for the promotion of Hindi.She also proposed vote of thanks.

Earlier, on September 15 a book exhibition related to Rajbhasha was organized. Special posters, banners were displayed in the campus for promotion of Hindi (official language) during Hindi week.
