“Women’s Participation in Political Spheres is Imperative,” MANUU VC
Hyderabad:
“Women’s active participation in socio-cultural and political spheres is significant for bringing meaningful change to their lives”, said Prof. Syed Ainul Hasan, Vice Chancellor, Maulana Azad National Urdu University today while delivering presidential address during Symposium “Women Writing in India: Contemporary Perspectives and New Aesthetics”.
The Department of English, MANUU in collaboration with Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi organized the symposium on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
The Chief Guest, Dr Gogu Shyamala, a noted writer and researcher known for her work on marginalized voices and lived experiences, reflected on the transformative power of women’s writing. The Guest of Honour, Mrs. Arshia Hasan, President of MANUU Anjuman-e-Khawateen (MAK), spoke about the significance of recognizing women’s creative voices and stressed the importance of academic spaces that encourage discussion on gender, representation, and cultural expression.
Prof. Ishtiaque Ahmed, Registrar, in his address appreciated the efforts of the Department in organizing a national-level academic event centered on women’s literary contributions.
Prof. Nagendra Kottacheruvu, Director and Head of the Department of English, delivered the Welcome Address. He highlighted the growing significance of women’s writing in contemporary literary discourse.
In her introductory remarks, Dr. Geeta, Convener of the symposium and Associate Professor outlined the objectives and thematic concerns of the symposium, emphasizing the importance of examining women’s narratives that emerge from diverse linguistic, regional, and social contexts.
Dr. Akram Khan proposed a vote of thanks, while the event was hosted by the research scholar, Afshan Muskan.
