Trees are our Important Survival Tools: Prof. Ayub Khan

Trees are our important survival tools. Only one tree can produce enough oxygen for many people. There are many environmental benefits of planting a tree. Planting trees is the need of hour and it has tremendous benefits for overall improvement of the environment. These are the views expressed by Prof. Ayub Khan, Vice-Chancellor, Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) while launching the plantation drive by the Directorate of Distance Education (DDE) on 18th March, 2020.

Prof. Ayubwhile emphasizing on planting treesaround our homes and officessaid that not only it helpsrestore quality of life but also contributes to the environment and help fight climate change and healthy for the existence and continuity of human beings.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. V. Venkaiah, former Vice-Chancellor, Krishna University, AP and Advisor, DDE, MANUU said that trees not only have a calming effect but they also act as natural air conditioning and help to save water. The shade they provide makes water evaporation slowl from low vegetation. It is a fact that trees need only about 15 water gallons a week to survive, but they release about 200-450 gallons of water per day. Trees are causes of rainfall and allow water to enter the earth and seep into the soil. They also, prevent storm water from polluting oceans, he said. He advised all to plant at least one plant in a year and see the benefits of it.

Prof. Abul Kalam, Director, DDEspoke about the importance of plants, conservation of nature and environment. He said that it is a well known fact that trees purify air. They absorb pollutant gases such as nitrogen oxides, ozone, ammonia, sulphur dioxide, etc. Trees can help in fighting climate change. Focusing on renewable sources of energy, he said that trees can become a great renewable source of energy. They have been around since the beginning of human being and with smart efforts we can re-create eco-friendly environment. Large number of teaching faculty, officers and staff participated in the drive.
