Webinar on Gender reporting in Urdu Media at MANUU
The Centre for Women’s Studies and Dept of Journalism and Mass Communication, Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) are organizing a two day webinar with Media Leaders on “Gender Reporting in Urdu Media-Opportunities & Challenges”on 24th& 25th of March, 11 am to 2 pmonline, in collaboration with Population First supported by UNFPA and Norwegian Embassy.
According to Prof. Shahida Murtaza, Director, Centre for Women Studies, the media leaders from Urdu media are being involved to have a conversation on the status of reporting through the gender lens as well as on having more gender equal news rooms in Urdu Media, identify opportunities and challenges in promoting gender sensitive reporting and gender inclusive organizations. This media consultation is expected to provide an opportunity to understand the status of gender reporting in Urdu media and identify steps to promote gender sensitive stories in Urdu media.
The programme will be webcast live on IMC, MANUU youtube channel.
Prof. Siddiqui Mohd. Mahmood, Registrar I/c will preside over the round table on first day of the programme. Prof. Shahida Murtaza will deliver welcome address and Dr. A.L.Sharada, Director, Population First will brief about the programme. Prof. Ehtesham Ahmad Khan, Dean, School of Mass Communication and Journalism is the Moderator.
Eminent media personalities : Ms. Aarfa Khanum - Chief Editor, The Wire, Mr. Amer Ali Khan - News Editor, Siasat, Mr. Fazil Hussain Parvez- Chief Editor, Gawah, Ms. Farhat Rizvi - Sr. Journalist, Rashtrya Sahara, Ms. Ayesha Khanum, Door Darshan. Bengaluru are the speakers for the first day.
Prof. S M Rahmatullah, Vice-Chancellor I/c will preside over the panel discussion on day 2. Prof. Ehtesham Ahmad Khan will deliver welcome address and Dr.A.L.Sharada will brief about the programme. Mr. Gowhar Geelani, Journalist & Political Analyst is the Moderator for day 2.
The Panelists include Mr. Qurban Ali - Senior Journalist, Ms. Seema Mustafa-President. Editors Guild of India and Editor in Chief 'The Citizen', Ms. Rasheda Hussain- IRS (Rtd) and Mr. Mohammad Azam Shahid-Salar, Bangalore. Prof. Mohd. Fariyad, Head, Department of MCJ will convene the programme on both days.
Asafia Library treasure trove of Arabic & Persian Scripts - Prof. Ishtiaque
City’s Asafia Central Library (Telangana State Central Library) boasts the biggest collection of hand written scripts in Arabic & Persian in the whole sub-continent. Eminent scholar, Prof. Sk. Ishtiaque Ahmed, Centr of Persian & Central Asian Studies, JNU, New Delhi revealed today while delivering the lecture “Persian Language, Literature, Culture and Civilization” at Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) organized by Dept. of Persian, MANUU in collaboration with National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language (NCPUL). The lecture was approved by the Ministry of Education. Central Library possess over 50 thousand Arabic & Persian hand written texts, he imformed.

Prof. Ishtiaque described the last Asafjahi ruler Mir Osman Ali Khan as true Patron of knowledge and establishment of Osmania University is it’s testimony. Darut Tarjuma (Translation Division) associated with OU translated and compiled 500 books thus popularizing Hyderabad all over the world. While comparing the impact of Persian language, literature, culture and civilization in the Mughals and Deccani Periods, he said generally it is believed that much work was done on Persian language during the Mughal period. But research shows that the work on Persian language and literature carried out in Deccan is no less.The easiest way to understand any society is its literature as it contains details of customs, lifestyle, civilization and culture, he remarked.
Prof. S M Rahmatullah, in his presidential remarks congratulated the department for conducting the lecture in the memory of a renowned and famous personality of Deccan, Raja Dhanrajgir. The lecture is important particularly for research scholars, he added.
Earlier, Dr. Syeda Asmath Jahan, Assistant Professor and the coordinator of the lecturedelivered the welcome address and the convenor Prof. Shahid Naukhez convened the lecture. Prof. Aziz Bano, Head, Department of Persian proposed vote of thanks. The lecture was webcast live on IMC, MANUU youtube channel.
