Online lecture series on Modern Hindi literature inaugurated at MANUU

The Department of Hindi, Maulana Azad National Urdu University is organizing a seven-day online lecture series “Aadhunik hindi Sahitya ki nayi dishayen” (New Dimensions of Contemporary Hindi Literature). The inaugural was held yesterday.

Prof. Mohd. Naseemuddin Farees, Dean, School of Languages, spoke on the origin, development, exploitation, identity and existence of the word ‘Adivasi’. Giving example of Mahabharata's Akluya he elaborated on the problems faced by the tribals.

Dr. Karan Singh Utwal, Head, Department of Hindi & the Convener while explaining the topic started his talk by referring the play 'Andha Yug' written by eminent Hindi scholar Dharmaveer Bharati and linked it to the current situation. He also threw light on tribal issues portrayed in Hindi literature; new directions of research; discourses on Women, Dalits & Muslims; use of literature in films and theatrical presentation of fiction. The chief guest of the inaugural, Prof. SM Rahmatullah, Vice Chancellor I/c in his address discussed about tribal issues in historical perspectives.

Dr. Bhim Singh, University of Hyderabad while delivering the inaugural keynote address spoke about the language of tribals. He shed light on the Mountain Movement, laws enacted by the British, land acquisition rule, etc. which happened around 1770. He also spoke on the role of tribal writers and poets in various genres of Hindi literature such as novels, fiction and poetry etc.

The lecture series started with the prayer song “Hamein itni shakti dena data….” by Zainab Khan, Research Scholar from Department of Hindi. The session was compered by Usha Yadav, Research Scholar. Dr. Patan Rahim Khan, Faculty Member proposed vote of thanks.
