MANUU pays glowing tributes to Maulana Abul Kalam Azad

Maulana Abul Kalam Azad fought relentlessly for the unity of the country and stood against the partition till his last breath. Unfortunately, some of the stalwarts he relied upon to avert this tragedy changed their mind at the last moment, claimed Prof. Faizan Mustafa, Vice-Chancellor, Nalsar University & Eminent Legal Expert. He was delivering the “Azad Memorial Lecture” today on National Education Day at Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU). Maulana Azad was cognizant of the problems that minorities will face on both sides after partition, he said.
Prof. Syed Ainul Hasan, Vice-Chancellor, MANUU presided over the lecture.
Dr. A. Nagender Reddy, Director, Salarjung Museum, Hyderabad and Dr. S. Chinnam Reddy, Director, National Institute of Tourism and Hospitality Management (NITHM), Hyderabad were the guests of honour.
MANUU organized nine-day long celebrations and paid tribute to the first education minister of independent India. His birth anniversary is celebrated as National Education Day across India today.
Prof. Faizan Mustafa while speaking on the topic “Maulana Abul Kalam Azad and Constitutional Management of Religious & Cultural Diversity” highlighted supreme court’s interpretation of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad’s advocacy for federal structure of independent India. Constitution of India safeguards the concern expressed by Maulana Azad with regard to minorities.
While paying glowing tribute to Maulana Azad, Prof. Faizan reminded that even after partition of the country Maulana was against the partition of culture. We need to reject the politics of division, he suggested. Prof. Faizan. described Maulana as a trump card for Congress, but he was not used properly.
Prof. Faizan, described students as the main stake holders of any institution and said the main function of a university is to create knowledge.
Prof. Syed Ainul Hasan in his presidential remarks described Maulana Abul Kalam Azad as a great personality who had to nurture a pain which intensified as time passed. Maulana was a true multifaceted personality. He did an extraordinary work by translating the Qur'an even though he did not have formal education. Appreciating his courage, Prof. Ainul Hasan said when Britishers closed his journal ‘Al-Hilal’, he started publishing ‘Al-Balagh’ which means communication, and kept on inspiring people for freedom struggle. He went ahead with it, went to jails, remained under restrictions but did not give up, he added.
Dr. A. Nagender Reddy briefed about the activities of the museum and invited students to visit and avail the facilities available in its library.
Dr. S. Chinnam Reddy advised youth to learn languages very well along with whatever courses they pursue and talked about electricity, water conservation and various natural resources.
Prof. SM Rahmatullah, Pro Vice-Chancellor while thanking NITHM and Salarjung museum officials for their invitation and suggestions, appreciated memorial lecture of Prof. Faizan Mustafa and said the country will develop if it has integrity along with heterogeneity. Maulana was not an educator but an educational thinker who designed the education system. He established premier education institutions like Sahatiya Academy, Lalit Kala Academy, and UGC etc. Moreover, various aspects of National Education Policy 2020 reflect Maulana Azad's views on education, Prof Rahmatullah said.
Earlier, Prof. Siddiqui Mohd Mahmood, Registrar I/c welcomed the guests. Highlighting the importance of National Education Day, he said that MANUU, which is named after Maulana Azad, is the right place to celebrate Education Day on a grand scale.
Mr. Meraj Ahmad, Cultural Coordinator announced the names of winners of various competitions held during Azad Day Celebrations.
Dr. Ahmad Khan, convenor, Core Committee convened the programme and also presented a report of the nine-day long celebrations.
Debate competition on Azad conducted at MANUU

Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU), as part of Azad Day Celebrations organized the final round of debate competition online through Google Meet on 9th November, 2021. The topic of the competition was “Technology has a damaging impact on the cultural ethos of a society”. The preliminary round was held on 28th October.
According to Prof. Mohammed Abdul Sami Siddiqui, Coordinator, the winners of first, second and third prizes respectively in Urdu are Mr. Asif Jawed, D.El.Ed, Mr. Shah Alam Khan, M.A., and Mr. Mohd Bilal, B.A. while in Hindi are Mr. Shahnawaz Alam, B.Ed, Ms. Aarzoo Khatoon, D.El.Ed and Mr. Md Mahfooj Alam, B.Ed, and in English language are Ms. Intesar Fatima, M.Ed, Ms. Rukshana Perween, B.Ed and Mr. Mohd Kashif, B.Tech.
Registrar Incharge, Prof. Siddiqui Mohd Mahmood and Dr. Ahamad Khan, Convener, Azad Day Celebrations graced the occasion. Judges for the competition in Urdu were Dr. Mohd Akbar, Mr. Gufran Barkati and Ms. Ismat Fathima, and Dr. B.L. Meena, Dr. Abdul Basit Ansari and Mr. Faheem Anwar were Hindi judges.
Azad Corner on Maulana Abul Kalam Azad inaugurated
Hyderabad:
During the week-long celebration (November 3-11, 2021) on Maulana Abul Kalam Azad by Maulana Azad National Urdu University, the ‘Azad Corner’ was inaugurated by Professor Syed Ainul-Hasan, Vice-Chancellor of the University on 9th November. A short documentary on Maulana Azad was also screened on the occasion.
A large number of books authored by Maulana Azad and books about him were exhibited. Original copies of Al-Hilal, a weekly newspaper published by him were on display along with Al-Balagh, few rare photographs with eminent freedom fighters, and a few letters written by Maulana Azad.
Prof. Syed Ainul Hasan described Maulana Azad as a multi-faceted and a great scholar of various languages including Arabic, Urdu and Persian. He also stated that Maulana Azad was highly influenced by Gandhian thoughts and was a firm believer in co-existence of communities with different culture and religions.
