Awareness program on Elimination of SUP held at MANUU
Hyderabad:
The School of Sciences (SoS), Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) organized Government of India Flagship Program on Ban on the Use of Single Use Plastic (SUP) on March 4, 2022 as part of “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav”.
Prof. Salman Ahmed Khan, Dean, School of Sciences while addressing highlighted on the waste segregation ways and stressed on the use of possible eco-friendly alternatives of SUP.
Prof. S Maqbool Ahmed explained in detail the hazardous effects of plastics on environment and elaborated about the items which comes under SUP. He also explained how these SUP products affect the human health and told about its serious affects in causing cancers in humans.
The Co-ordinator of SUP program, MANUU - Dr Ira Khan while welcoming the gathering spoke on “Awareness program on Elimination of Single Use Plastics (SUPs) from MANUU campus”. She also introduced the program and explained the meaning of SUPs and its importance for living being.
Dr M.A Quddus, Assistant Registrar, Estate Section emphasized on the segregation of SUP waste with recyclable waste and explained the procedure for the same. It is our duty to keep the campus neat and clean, he said.
All the staff members appealed the housekeeping staff to keep the MANUU campus clean and green by eliminating SUP items and urged all the members to take the pledge to not to use SUP and to promote ecofriendly items in the University campus.
Dr. Ira Khan proposed vote of thanks. Faculty members from SoS - Dr. Masroor Fatima, Dr. Arif Ahmed, Dr. Meraj ul Islam Robab, Dr. Subhash, Dr. Rizwanul Haq Ansari, Dr. Majid along with Mr. Ali Noman, In- charge of security staff, teachers and non-teaching staff were also present on the occasion. The housekeeping staff of MANUU campus were also invited for the programme.
