Symposium on “Women Empowerment: Issues and Strategies” held at MANUU

Discrimination against women is created by the society itself. Women should take the lead in decision making which will empower them and improve their condition. For economic development, women can set up various businesses with the help of Telangana Government. Mr. Shah Nawaz Qasim, IPS, & Director, Minority Welfare, Govt. of Telangana expressed these views yesterday at Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) during the symposium "Women's Empowerment: Issues and Strategies" organized by the Department of Women Education (DWE) on the occasion of International Women's Day 2022. He was speaking as the Chief guest of the symposium.

Prof. SM Rahmatulla, Pro Vice-Chancellor in his presidential remarks, said that education is the best source to bring change in society. He asked Mr. Shahnawaz Qasim to facilitate MANUU students to avail mid-day meal scheme and transportation through the Government of Telangana.

Prof. Padmaja Shaw, Former Head, Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, Osmania University spoke about media intervention and its reasons and repercussions. Women are being presented as mere showpieces under consumer culture which is not appropriate, she added.

Prof. Shahida, Director I/c, Center for Women Studies, Prof. Farida Siddiqui, Dean, School of Arts and Social Sciences, Capt. Sayeda Salva Fatima, First Officer (Co Pilot), Indigo Air Lines and Dr. Ameena Tahseen, Head, DWE & the Programme Coordinator also spoke. Dr. Shabana Kesar, Assistant Professor, DWE conducted the proceedings.

After the symposium MANUU Drama Club staged a play and a mono act to commemorate Women’s Day. Through the play “Saga of Women’s life Journey”, the students tried to show the different phases of discrimination women go through her lifetime, whether as a wife, employee or a student. For ages women are suffering and are still fighting for her existences even though she is the backbone of the society. The play was directed by Dr. AdnanBismillah whereasStudents - Ms.AfiyahPerween, Ms.UmamaAman, Ms.NaziaArzoo, Mr.Md.Minhaj, Mr.AbdulRahman, Mr. Md.ArshadTabrez, Mr. Mazhar Subhani, Mr. Md. Ragib Alam, Mr. Syed Mazharuddin, Mr. Shahnawaz Alam, Mr. Md. Shams Tabrezpresentedthe Play.Mr Md.Nadeem was the Assistant Director of the play whereas Production by Mr. Md. Zamir Hasan&Mr. Md.Nurain. The lights arrangement were done by Mr. Noor Mojassam, Mr. AbdulQuadir.

A mono act “Dowry: A symbol of Socio-Cultural exploitation of Women” gives the message how the tradition of dowry becomes nightmare for the bride’s family. The act presented by Ms. Husna Perweenshows the entire trauma girl faces after marriage in the name of dowry.

Both the acts were well received by the audience and they appreciated the performance of the students of MANUU Drama Club and the important message conveyed by them. Dr. Meraj Ahmad, Cultural Coordinator supervised the arrangements.
