Response:

Being a national university MANUU enjoys an all India jurisdiction and having institutions/campuses in 12 States including Jammu & Kashmir. Within a short span of two decades, MANUU emerged into one of the most preferred destination of higher education for those students seeking Urdu as a medium of instructions. MANUU has a strong and committed institutional leadership with an established system of governance and as a result the University was able to transform it from a single campus university with a few programmes under regular and distance mode into a multi-campus with multi-disciplinary university.

The University with the full support of the Government of India and UGC created excellent infrastructure for the teaching departments and constituent colleges. The professional and technical programmes are mainly targeting the vast Urdu speaking population largely in the rural and semi-urban areas. The motto of the University is “Reaching the Un-reached”, matching with the vision, mission and objectives of the University for which it has been established.

The leadership of the University through its various flagship technical, professional and non-technical programmes was able to attract first time learners from the main stream as well as madrasa education and one of third of whom were women students coming from faraway states like Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu& Kashmir.

The following are the steps taken by the University to reflect an effective leadership:

  1. Clear goals with path setting through system development: - In order to achieve the mandate and objectives provided under its Act, the successive leaderships of the University provided clear goals with path setting approach to expand the university with excellence continuously. The university has been successful in expanding its activities across the country with moderate academic facilities for the students and teachers to meet the diverse requirements of the Schools of Studies, Departments, Centres and Directorates.

This has shaped the University from an institution for distance education into a main stream university with focus on technical and professional programmes over the period.

  1. Striving for interactive and innovative teaching-learning with emphasis in social outreach:

The leadership of the University through its goals setting approach with clarity on path and directions created an eco-system of governance which is supportive and participative for the stake holders of the University system viz. teachers, staff and students. There is a systematic process of representation by each stake holders have been provided by the University through its formal Authority Bodies, Academic Bodies and Administrative Bodies as members or special invitees. Such representation provided an opportunity each of the stake holders to participate and contribute to the betterment of the governance of the University. Minutes of all such meetings and interactions are recorded and electronically made available through the University website. All major policy decisions be it academic or administration are arriving at after thorough discussions and consultative process in a transparent manner. Most of the programmes offered by the University are targeted towards social inclusive and outreach components to benefit the society.
