Profile of ڈاکٹر سہید

Dr. Saheed is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology. He joined the Department in October, 2014. He has obtained his Ph.D. from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi. He specializes in the field of sociology of education with special research focus on issues of school choice, neo-liberal reforms and education systems, educational experiences of diverse groups such as minorities, dalits and urban poors, inclusion and exclusion debates, and sociological theories.

Dr. Saheed teaches courses on sociological theories, sociology of education, social institutions, sociology of culture and mass media, science and society, and sociology of development at graduate, post-graduate, and doctoral levels.

Presently, Dr. Saheed is also performing responsibilities as an Academic Coordinator, and is also a member of Board of Studies (BoS) at the Department, and the member of the School Board, School of Arts and Social Sciences in the University. He is also life member of Indian Sociological Society (ISS), and the Comparative Education society of India (CESI).

Dr. Saheed has co-authored a national report titled ‘Caught in Crossfire: State of Children and Education in Civil Strife Affected Regions of India’ published by Save the Children India where he worked as a researcher during the very onset of his professional career. He soon joined academics, and is actively engaged in both teaching and research activities. Besides contributing to course content for Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) B.A. program in sociology, conducting a research project on Urdu medium schools with the Government of Andhra Pradesh, and publishing articles in various nation and international Journals, he has authored a book on ‘Qdeem Samajyati Nazaryaat’ (Classical Sociological Theories) in Urdu (forthcoming). He has presented numerous research papers at various national and international seminar/conferences, delivered invited lectures, and has participated in various workshops on research methods and issues of contemporary concern in sociology.
