Proceedings of the Event
The Department of Vocational Studies and Skill Development, School of Sciences, Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU), in collaboration with the Indian Society of Radiographers and Technologists (ISRT), organized a special programme to commemorate the International Day of Radiology (IDOR) 2025 on 10 November 2025 at the CSE Building Ground Floor Auditorium, MANUU.
The programme commenced with a formal welcome of the distinguished guests, faculty members, radiography and medical imaging professionals, and students by esteemed Nodal officer, Prof. S. Maqbool Ahmed. The event aimed to highlight the importance of radiology and medical imaging in modern healthcare and to create awareness about the significant contribution of radiographers and radiological technologists to patient care and diagnosis.
The inaugural session was attended by Mr. Srinivasulu Sriramdas, Chief Guest; Mr. Abdul M. Ansari, Guest of Honour; Prof. P. F. Rahaman, Presiding Officer; Prof. H. Aleem Basha, Dean, School of Sciences; and Prof. S. Maqbool Ahmed, Nodal Officer, along with faculty members and students of the university.
As part of the International Day of Radiology programme, an Invited Lecture on Breast Cancer Awareness was also organized. The lecture was delivered by Mrs. Raheema Sultana, Senior Mammography Technologist, Continental Hospital, Hyderabad. The session focused on the importance of breast cancer awareness and the role of early identification and screening in improving health outcomes.
During the lecture, Mrs. Raheema Sultana discussed important aspects of breast cancer symptoms, early detection, self-assessment, awareness and preventive measures. Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of recognizing early warning signs and seeking timely medical consultation. The session also highlighted the relevance of mammography and breast imaging in the early detection and evaluation of breast abnormalities.
The lecture provided students and participants with valuable practical knowledge regarding breast health and encouraged them to promote awareness among the wider community. The interactive session also enabled participants to engage with the expert and clarify their queries related to breast cancer screening, symptoms and preventive practices.
The programme was coordinated by Mr. Junaid Ul Islam, Assistant Professor Medical Imaging and Technology with the support of the Department of Vocational Studies and Skill Development and ISRT. The event brought together academic and professional perspectives, thereby strengthening the connection between radiology education, professional practice and public health awareness.
The programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the dignitaries, invited speaker, representatives of ISRT, university authorities, faculty members, staff and students for their valuable presence and support.
Outcome of the Event
The combined International Day of Radiology and Breast Cancer Awareness Programme successfully promoted awareness about the vital role of radiology in healthcare while also addressing the important public health issue of breast cancer. The programme enhanced students' understanding of radiological practice, mammography, breast cancer symptoms, early detection, self-assessment and prevention.
The event also provided an effective platform for interaction between students, academic faculty and healthcare professionals and reinforced the importance of early diagnosis, preventive healthcare and responsible use of medical imaging. Overall, the programme was successfully conducted with active participation from the university community and contributed meaningfully to the academic and health-awareness objectives of the Department.
