Ms. Kamla Bhasin in her keynote address said that women’s studies is the daughter of women movement, the meaning of women’s studies is not only getting a degree but to stop inequality. Today I am seeing that education is a big source of spreading inequality. She sings a poem.
“Padhna Hai Padhna Hai
tumhein kyum Padhna hai”
Gender did not made by the Nature; it is made by the society. Some biological changes are occurred in the bodies of a man & woman which is because a women give birth to a child but the nature did not said what a women can do and, what she could not. Nature did not say men are superior to women. Gender concept is came to separate what is nature and what is society. Now a day’s jobs are gendered, our ambition has become gendered.
Gendered not only constraints men but also women. Gender stereotypes affect both men and women.
She also gave statistics of crime against women. She said every issue is a gender issue because every issue in which mankind is involved is a gender issue. Gender is not a western issue. About fifteen hundred year ago when Prophet Mohammad talked about the Rights of Women, it is not gender?
The main cause of these problems is patriarchy and women are fighting with patriarchy. The main problem is not only men support patriarchy but some women also support it; many men like Prophet Mohammad, Lord Buddha, Maulana Azad are in favour of equality. Every unjust system will not run without patriarchy, these will be violence against women.
She read a poem
“KON KEHTA HAI JANNAT ISEY
HUM SE POOCHO HUM HAI PHANSEY
HUM NE HAR SHAYE SANVARI
PAR HUM BAD RANG HOTEY GAYE”
Patriarchy is not only harmful for women but also for men at the end she said.
MANZIL MUJHE MILE NA MILE ISKA MUJHE GHAM NAHI
MANZIL KI JUSTAJU MEIN MERA KARWAAN TO HAI
Prof. H. Khatija Begum, Head, Dept. of Education & Training in her presidential remarks said that, concept like Gender & Patriarchy understood by everyone present it this auditorium. She said that we should give efforts to give respect to our women. She also said that nature has created enough for every need but not enough for our great.
