Profile of Mohd Farooq Bakhshi
Prof Mohd. Farooq (Pen name: Farooq Bakhshi) was born on 15th July 1957 in the city of Meerut,Uttar Pradesh, in a distinguished family of linguists and poets. His father was a well known teacher and a reputed scholar of Persian language and literature, whose academic legacy is now a treasured part of the folklore of the city of Meerut.
Prof Mohd. Farooq started his teaching carrier as a lecture in the Department of Urdu, Govt PG College Kota, Rajasthan and went on to become Assistant professor in the same department in the year 1998. In the year 2012, he was appointed as a professor in the Department of Urdu, at Mohan Lal Sukhadia University, Udaipur. Since 2017 till present, he is working as a Professor in the Department of Urdu, at MANUU,
Hyderabad.
Prof Mohd. Farooq has 35 years of teaching experience at the Post Graduate level and apart from being an excellent teacher, he is also renowned name in the realm of Urdu poetry, with three published poetry collections to his name and has earned great accolades for his poetry recitals at numerous musharias, at both national international level.
In addition to poetry, Prof Mohd. Farooq is also well known for his academic work on Urdu literature. His four published books on Urdu literature and its criticisms are a fine specimen of the depth of his knowledge and command over this subject matter.
Prof Mohd. Farooq has been awarded Rajasthan’s highest academic award “Prof. Hafiz Mahmood Sherwani Award”, 2017 and numerous prizes for his services to the Urdu language and is a regular participant on TV and radio programmes with over 250 appearances to his credit.
