About the Department

Maulana Azad National Urdu University is a Central University situated in Hyderabad The School of Sciences has started B.Voc. Degree in 2019 with 02 programmes B.Voc Medical Laboratory Technology & B.Voc. Medical Imaging Technology, and in the year 2023-2024, the university has started PG Programmes in MLT and MIT. From the academic year 2024-2025, the university introduced B.Voc Emergency and Trauma care Technology).

Additionally, the School of Sciences; in the year 2014 had initiated the following diploma/ certificate programs such as

  • Diploma in Emergency and Medical Technician 2 Years Duration
  • Diploma in Dialysis Technician 2 Years Duration
  • Certificate in Emergency and Medical Technician 2 Years Duration
  • Certificate in Dialysis Technician 2 Years Duration

These programs were conducted Successfully from 2014 to 2018 and 90% of the passed out candidates were placed in the reputed corporate hospitals, some of our students are also placed in government sector and in UAE and KSA.

Department of Vocational Studies & Skill Development,

The Department of Vocational Studies & Skill Development has been established in the year 2025 under School of Sciences, with an objective to create employable, skilled technical health workers. MANUU happens to be the only central university offering Bachelor of Vocation Programmes, Medical Laboratory Technology, Medical Imaging Technology & Emergency & Trauma care Technology (4 years degree course) and Master of Vocation Programmse, Medical Laboratory Technology and Medical Imaging Technology (2 Years PG Degree course) in the Telangana State, the B.Voc and M.Voc Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT), B.Voc and M.Voc Medical Imaging Technology (MIT) , B.Voc Emergency & Trauma care Technology (ETT) & Ph.D (MLT) courses have been started in MANUU in line with the Skill India Programme initiated by the Govt Of India.

The Department has well established and equipped Labs with LCD projector facility. The Department regularly organizes Workshops, Extension Lectures, Seminars with participation of faculty as well as students from the University. The faculty has rich teaching and Research experience in the areas of Medical Laboratory Technology and Medical Imaging Technology subjects. The Department of Vocational Studies & Skill Development in collaboration with Medicover Hospitals & Omega Hospitals, has been holding Invited Talks/Lectures on current fields of Allied Health and Vocational Sciences, by inviting Resource Persons from India and outside the Country. The Department has academic autonomy and has been revising its syllabus as per its requirement and the department has also implemented CBCS system since 2019 as per UGC Guidelines.

To strengthen women on skill development, entrepreneurship, employabilility and economic independence, the Department of Vocational Studies and Skill Development has introduced Diploma in Calligraphy one year programme consisting of two semesters only for women from academic year 2025-2026.

Curriculum :

The curriculum in each semester includes two components like General Education & Skill Development component. The General education component shall have 40% of the Total Credits, where as Skill Development Component shall have 60% weightage.

General Education Components (40% Weightage) GEC:

General Education Components adhere to the University Education norms, and shall be decided by the BOS of the concerned University. GEC include courses which are supportive to core trade such as :

  • Communication Skills
  • Soft Skills
  • ICT Skills
  • Critical Thinking
  • Problem Solving
  • Environmental Studies
  • Value Education

Skill Components (SC)

For skill components model, curriculum developed by the concerned Sector Skill Council whichever applicable may be adopted in consultation with the Industry partners.

Wherever the curriculum is not available, the same may be developed in consultation with the relevant Sector Skill councils (SSC) an Industry Partners (IP)

UGC Approved NSQF Programmes

The University Grants Commission (UGC) had launched a scheme on 27 February, 2014 for skills development based higher education as part of college/university education, leading to Bachelor of Vocation (B.Voc.) Degree, Master of Vocation (M.Voc.) Degree and Ph.D (Research level). Considering the implementation modalities, the guidelines of the scheme have been revised in the year 2015. The B.Voc. and M.Voc. programmes are focused on universities and colleges providing undergraduate and postgraduate studies which would also incorporate specific job roles and their NOSs along with broad based general education. This would enable the candidates completing these programmes to make a meaningful participation in accelerating India’s economy by gaining appropriate employment, becoming entrepreneurs and creating appropriate knowledge.

Objectives:

1. To provide judicious mix of skills relating to a profession and appropriate content of general education.

2. To ensure that the students have adequate knowledge and skills, so that they are work ready at each exit point of the programme.

3. To provide flexibility to students by means of pre-defined entry and multiple exit points.

4. To integrate NSQF within the undergraduate level of higher education in order to enhance employability of the graduates and meet industry requirements. Such graduates apart from meeting the needs of local and national industry are also expected to be equipped to become part of the global workforce.

5. To Provide Vertical Mobility To Students Coming Out Of these courses.

Assessment

a. The Skill component of the course will be assessed and certified by the respective Sector Skill Councils. In case, there is no Sector Skill Council for a specific trade, the assessment may be done by an allied Sector Council or the Industry partner. The certifying bodies may comply with and obtain accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Certification Bodies (NABCB) set up under Quality Council of India (QCI). Wherever the university/college may deem fit, it may issue a joint certificate for the course(s) with the respective Sector Skill Council (s)

b. The credits for the skill component will be awarded in terms of NSQF level certification which will have 60% weightage of total credits of the course in following manner.

c. The general education component will be assessed by the concerned university as per the prevailing standards and procedures. The following formula may be used for the credit calculation in general education component of the courses:

i. General Education credit refers to a unit by which the course work is measured. It determines the number of hours of instructions required per week. One credit is equivalent to one hour of teaching (lecture or tutorial) or two hours of practical work/field work per week. Accordingly, one Credit would mean equivalent of 14-15 periods of 60 minutes each or 28 – 30 hrs of workshops / labs.

ii. For internship / field work, the credit weightage for equivalent hours shall be 50% of that for lectures / tutorials.

iii. For self-learning, based on e-content or otherwise, the credit weightage for equivalent hours of study shall be 50% of that for lectures / tutorials.

NSQF Levels With No of Credits

Department-Vocational-Studies-Skill-Development Prof. S Maqbool Ahmed

Prof .S. Maqbool Ahmed is presently working as Professor and Head of Botany with an additional responsibility as Head of the Department of Vocational Studies & Skill Development under School of Sciences. He has obtained his Master and Ph.D Degree from Barkatullah University, Bhopal. He has also held the position of OSD-Exams, subject coordinator of Botany, Zoology and certificate course of Food and Nutrition in DDE, I/c Principal of MANUU, Polytechnic, Coordinator of Paramedical Programs, Coordinator of UGC Schemes, (CCMES), Incharge of Horticulture of MANUU Campus, Overseas Co-Ordinator and member in various committees. He was a recipient of the Best Teacher Award from former Chief Election Commissioner of India Mr.T.N.Seshan. He has secured First Position in the Barkatullah University during the academic year 1988-90. He has been Teaching for the last 25 Years and before joining MANUU he has worked as Research Fellow in Regional College of Education (NCERT) Bhopal in one Project sanctioned by CSIR-NEERI. He also worked as a Lecturer in Botany in Regional Institute of Education (NCERT), Bhopal.

Prof.S Maqbool Ahmed has visited Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (Jeddah and Madina) for conducting Convocation (Certificate Distribution Ceremony) of MANUU students. He has received two Research Grants and His research areas are Plant Physiology, Plant Ecology and Environmental Science. He has several Ph.D scholars under his supervision.

He has published more than 35 Research Articles in National and International journals and participated in number of conferences / Seminars and workshops, further to his credit, he has published 10 books.
