MANUU conducted a Workshop on Road Safety with UNICEF India

Hyderabad:

Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) conducted a workshop on Road Safety in collaboration with UNICEF India for students of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism.

More than 50 students participated in the workshop, where they were tasked with creating media products for print, TV, online, and social media to raise awareness on road safety for children and adolescents.

Speaking during a session, Syed Ali, Health Specialist, UNICEF India, highlighted the broader impact of road safety on children's rights. "Road safety is crucial for children's rights, covering their health, survival, education, protection, and participation. It's a major global development challenge affecting health, well-being, and economic growth. Addressing child road traffic injuries not only saves lives but also supports broader public health and economic goals, promoting holistic development for communities worldwide."

In the last decade alone, road crashes have killed 1.3 million and injured over 5 million in India as per World Bank Reports 2021.

Children have a right to use a road environment free of injuries. Addressing the students, Prof. Mohammad Fariyad, Dean & Head, Department of Mass Communication and Journalism said, "As aspiring journalists and media professionals, you have the unique opportunity to shed light on the crucial issue of road safety through your blogs, social media, and newspapers. By spreading awareness on mitigating child road traffic injuries, you can help safeguard children's well-being and contribute to broader public health efforts.
