Attorney General to Inaugurate MANUU Moot Court

The Moot Court of the newly established Law School at Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU), Hyderabad will be inaugurated tomorrow on Saturday, 6th July 2024 by the Attorney General of India Shri R. Venkataramani. (Moot court is a mock court in which law students argue hypothetical cases for practice). Prof. Syed Ainul Hasan, the Vice Chancellor, MANUU while addressing a press conference today informed that the Attorney General of India has agreed to be the Chief Guest of the program while Shri M (Mumtaz Ali), the Chancellor, MANUU will preside over. Tracing the history of the education of Law in Urdu language in India, he reminded that Osmania University, Hyderabad used to offer law courses in Urdu language, however, this was discontinued around 74 years back. Now, Maulana Azad National Urdu University, with a mandate to provide higher education through Urdu medium has taken the initiative to offer courses in law from under Graduate to Doctoral level. According to Prof. Syed Ainul Hasan, the Bar Council of India has already accorded its approval for establishment of School of Law in MANUU. The varsity is going to start a five year course of BA LLB (Honors), three year LLB, and one year LLM program from this academic year. The related entrance tests have already been conducted and the process of admission is going on. The intake in each of the UG and PG courses is sixty.

 

The commencement of Law courses is a milestone in the history of Maulana Azad National Urdu University, the Vice Chancellor said. Parliamentary Standing Committee has itself recommended that the education of law should be imparted in regional languages too. Member of Parliament, Shri Vivek Thakur who was heading the committee said that the effective implementation of New Education Policy 2020 is possible only through education in regional languages and the MANUU Law School is a significant headway in this direction. Prof. Tabrez Ahmad, Dean Law School and the Registrar, Prof. Ishtiaque Ahmed and others were also present in the press conference.
