Workshop on Mobile and Data Journalism inaugurated at MANUU

"Journalism is changing completely and we are going through a very revolutionary phase.At present journalism is going into the next phase.We need to work wisely on technique as well as on content." These are the views expressed by Mr. Brajesh Misra, Editor in Chief, Bharat Samachar, UP, in the inaugural of two-Day Workshop on "Mobile and Data Journalism: Embracing Innovation in Media". Prof. Syed Ainul Hasan, Vice Chancellor, Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) presided over the inaugural of the workshop being organized by the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism (MCJ), MANUU.
Continuing his address Mr. Brajesh Misra said that the viewership of newspaper and TV news channels is decreasing now and digital viewership is increasing. There is a need to change within ourselves now, he added.
Prof. Ainul Hasan in his presidential address said that MANUU is named after Maulana Azad who was a great journalist so obviously Urdu journalism has a very strong foundation in this University. Also there is a hostel named after Maulvi Muhammad Baqir in MANUU, who was also a great journalist. While quoting an idiom "Blessings in Disguise", Prof. Hasan said sometimes mobile phones are a blessing and sometimes it is a disguise for us.
Mr. Nitin Srivastava, Editor, BBC Hindi, New Delhi in his address said that as a journalist right now we are in a very interesting and challenging phase. We have been a robust strong democracy; journalism played a very important role in upholding our constitution. According to him, journalism is now the first pillar of the constitution.
Mr. Md. Faheem Qureshi, President, TGMREIS, Hyderabad, said media is a very responsible and respectful job.
Earlier, Prof. Mohammad Fariyad, Dean & Head, MCJ delivered a welcome address and thanked workshop sponsors. Prof. Ehtesham Ahmad Khan, MCJ, MANUU delivered the introductory remarks. Mr. Meraj Ahmed, Assistant Professor convened the inaugural session.
Mr. Nitin Srivastava while addressing the first technical session, emphasized the transformative power of mobile journalism in the current media landscape. He discussed how smartphones have democratized news reporting, enabling journalists to capture, edit, and disseminate stories instantly.
Prof. Mohammad Fariyad delivered opening remarks and Dr. Mohd Mustafa Ali Sarwari, Associate Professor was the moderator for this session.
The second technical session was held on the topic “Trust in Digital News”.Prof. Syed Afshana, Media Education Research Centre University of Kashmir, Srinagar focused on the critical issue of trust in digital journalism. She highlighted the increasing prevalence of misinformation and disinformation in the digital age, stressing the importance of media literacy among consumers.
Dr. Meraj Ahmed Mubaraki, Assistant Director, UGC-MMTTC was the moderator.
