A workshop on "Digital Security Learning" was organized by the Department of Mass Communication, Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) in collaboration with Software Freedom Law Center (SFLC.in). The workshop focused on raising awareness about online safety and equipping participants with practical tools to safeguard their digital presence.
Mr. Syed Haroon, a legal expert and Mr. Vignesh, a technologist from SFLC addressed key legal and technical aspects of digital security. Prof. Mohammad Fariyad, Head, Department of Mass Communication presided over.
Mr. Syed Haroon highlighted issues such as data breaches, privacy rights, and the rules governing the search and seizure of electronic devices. He emphasized the importance of understanding data protection laws and how they safeguard users from cyber threats.
Mr. Vignesh explained how personal data is collected, analyzed, and potentially misused, a process known as data profiling. He provided practical advice on threat modeling, encryption, and securing social media accounts. He also discussed ways to protect against spyware and stalk-ware, offering actionable tips for participants to strengthen their online security.
In his concluding remarks, Prof. Mohammad Fariyad stressed the need for more such initiatives to educate students and faculty about the growing risks in cyberspace. "Cybersecurity is a shared responsibility, and workshops like these are essential to prepare individuals for the challenges of the digital age," he said.
