The Department of Arabic, Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU), in collaboration with the Qur'an Foundation, Hyderabad and Centre for Urdu Culture Studies, hosted the two day National Seminar on "Khanqahs of the Deccan & their Acadmic & Social Contribution".
Prof. Syed Ainul Hasan, Vice-Chancellor presided over the inaugural session held at MANUU Campus. Syed Muhammad Ali Al-Hussaini, Chancellor, KBN University, Gulbarga was the chief guest and Mufti Khaleel Ahmed, Ameer E Jamia Nizamiya, Hyderabad was the Guest of Honour. Prof. Syed Badiuddin Sabri, Former Head, Department of Arabic, OU delivered the keynote address.
Prof. Syed Ainul Hasan in his presidential address said the journey of Sufism requires patience, endurance, and perseverance. He said that the important objective of organizing a seminar on the topic of monasteries of the Deccan is to give confidence to researchers by promoting research on this topic at the university level, added Prof. Ainul Hasan.
Referring the Holy Quran, Mufti Khaleel Ahmed said after researching various contemporary sciences, experts admitted that these facts are already mentioned in the Quran. Sufism is nothing but ethics and which is identified with humanity, he added.
Mr. Syed Ali Hussaini emphasize on the revival of the monastic system. He said from historical references that in the past, monasteries were not only places of worship but also centers of training, schools, public service and most importantly, spiritual training.
Prof. Syed Badiuddin Sabri in his keynote address said that Khanqah means a place for eating; hence langar is arranged in Khanqahs. Another meaning of it is a place of worship.
Prof. Ishtiaque Ahmed, Registrar while addressing informed that papers presented in the seminar will be published in the form of a book, which includes 89 papers in Urdu and 14 papers in Hindi and English.
Prof. Syed Alim Ashraf, Head Department of Arabic & Seminar Director delivered the welcome address.
Prof. M.A. Sami Siddiqui, Joint Dean; Student's Welfare convened the programme.
