 Government earmarks 6kcr for text books: Chandan Srivastava

 

Hyderabad:

The Government of India has allocated Rs. 6,000 crore in the forthcoming financial year for the preparation of higher education textbooks in various Indian languages, including Urdu. The initiative aims to produce 2.5 lakh academic books. This was stated by Dr. Chandan Srivastava, Academic Coordinator, Bharatiya Bhasha Samiti (BBS), New Delhi, today while addressing the inaugural session of a two-day workshop for Urdu authors at Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) through an online mode as the Chief Guest.

 

Prof. Vibha Sharma, Department of English, Aligarh Muslim University was the Chief Guest whereas the Prof. Syed Ainul Hasan, Vice-Chancellor presided over the inaugural session.  Prof. Ishtiaque Ahmed, Registrar and Prof. Mohd Razaullah Khan, Director, Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE), attended as Guests of Honour.

 

Dr. Chandan Srivastava further stated that under the New Education Policy (NEP), the Government of India has entrusted BBS with the task of textbook preparation in Indian Languages for Higher Studies. He said that MANUU has been designated as the nodal agency for developing high-quality Urdu textbooks, with Prof. Syed Ainul Hasan appointed as the Nodal Officer. The scheme involves 4.5 lakh teachers and experts from over one thousand institutions and focuses on the development of Interactive E-textbooks. He appreciated MANUU’s proactive role and said its early initiatives were exemplary.

 

In his presidential address, Prof. Syed Ainul Hasan advised teachers not to confine themselves to the syllabus. He said the NEP provides a conducive academic environment and emphasized the importance of understanding Indian Knowledge Systems.

 

Prof. Vibha Sharma described Urdu as a democratic and inclusive language and an integral part of India’s soul. She remarked that Urdu is not a language of religion, but of the Land.

 

Prof. Ishtiaque Ahmed highlighted MANUU’s crucial role during the initial phase of BBS and stressed the need to present Urdu as a serious academic language. Prof. Razaullah Khan spoke about challenges in preparing Self-Learning Material for distance education and informed that 426 SLMs have been prepared so far.

 

Prof. Khalid Mubashir Zafar, Director, Directorate of Translation, Translation Studies, Lexicography and Publication (DTTLP) and BBS Urdu Coordinator in his welcome address said that the workshop is a meaningful step towards strengthening the academic future of Urdu. A large number of faculty members, research scholars, and external experts are participating in the two-day workshop.

 

The proceedings were conducted by Prof. Abu Shaheem Khan.

 

On the occasion, five books published under the DTTLP were released. These included Human Being: The Vicegerent of Allah on Earth by Prof. S. M. Rahmatullah; Indian Knowledge Systems by Prof. Mohammad Moshahid and Dr. Afaq Nadeem Khan; Kahat Kabir by Prof. FirozAlam; Indian Culture and Civilization in Early Arabic Travelogues by Dr. Mohammad Shakir Raza; and Ainiat-e-Hasan, a compilation of speeches by Prof. Syed Ainul Hasan, edited by Dr. Mohammad Shamsuddin.

Workshop on Cinematography, Color Grading & Visual Storytelling begins

The Instructional Media Centre (IMC), Maulana Azad National Urdu University, inaugurated a three-day hands-on workshop on “Cinematography, Color Grading & Visual Storytelling” with active participation from students and media professionals at the IMC Preview Theatre.

 

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Rizwan Ahamd, Director, IMC, underlined the significance of hands-on exposure in media education. He emphasized that such workshops help students bridge the gap between theoretical understanding and real-world media production practices.

 

Mr. Arun Kumar, Instructor and Official Mentor associated with Sony India, Digitek, and Zhiyun is the resource person of the workshop.

 

During the first technical session, Mr. Arun Kumar explained various aspects of photography, including camera handling, composition, use of light, and visual perception. The session was interactive, with participants raising queries and discussing practical challenges faced during shooting.

 

Dr. Md. Imtiyaz Alam anchored the programme whereas Shakeel Ahmad, Engineer introduced the resource person and Omar Azmi, Producer-I proposed vote of thanks. Md. Aamir Badr, Producer-I is the workshop Convener.

 

Mr. Arun Kumar will conduct intensive practical sessions focusing on indoor and outdoor shooting techniques, along with editing and color grading workflows, providing participants with comprehensive hands-on experience during the workshop.
