Education should facilitate solution to social issues - Prof. Talib
Urdu Social Science Congress concluded at MANUU
Employbility is not the only purpose of education. It shall facilitate a solution to the problems faced by the society. Sociology is generally taught without sociology. For this it is necessary to involve students in various skill based projectsand field works to make them understand the subject in a better way. These were the views expressed by Prof. Mohammad Talib, Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies, Oxford University, UK yesterday in the valedictory session of the fourth National Urdu Social Sciences Congress “Social Sciences – Decline and Resurgence” organized byMaulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU), School of Arts and Social Sciences (SA&SS).
Speaking online as the Chief Guest, Prof. Talib, said that all concepts and issues between sociology and society are interconnected in such a way that both are influenced by each other. Referring to Dr. Zakir Hussain's education policy “Education for life through life”, he talk about education policies of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Zakir Hussain. He gave a detailed lecture through PowerPoint presentation.
Prof. S M Rahmatullah, Vice-Chancellor I/c, Dean, SA&SS & Convenor, Congress in his presidential address said that during the congress very good papers were discussed. If we pay attention then surely we will be able to solve the problems related to the society and the teaching of social sciences in Urdu. MANUU will definitely achieve the goal of providing quality education in Urdu, he added.
The guest of honour, Prof. Mohd. Muzammil, Former VC, Dr. B R Ambedkar University, Agra & MJP Rohilkhand University, Bareilly, while delivering informative talk said that students and research scholars should have a clear distinction between Administration, Management and Governance. Pointing out the important role being played by social science during the pandemic he said, it facilitates the accessibility of the work done in the labs to the public.
Another guest of honour, Dr. Mohammad Ghouse, Secretary/Director, Telangana Urdu Academy, remarked that today the biggest crisis in the world is the erosion of social justice. Governance system has failed to provide social justice. He also spoke about the role of the judiciary and public representatives and the issues of minorities.
Dr. Md. Aftab Alam, H.R. Manager and Welfare Office, BHEL, Jhansi, GOI & the guest of honour in his lecture gave details about social work profession and its specializations. He said that social work itself is a set of functional knowledge of each and every discipline.
Prof. Mohd. Naseemuddin Farees, Dean, SLL&I and Director, Deccan Studies in his welcome address spoke about the inter-connectivity between poetry, literature, social sciences and science & technology. Prof. Shahida, Head, Department of Women Education, MANUU & Co-Convenor Congress proposed vote of thanks. Dr. Saheed, Assistant Professor, Sociology, while presenting the report informed that in 4 technical sessions of the congress total 47 papers were presented.
Prof Shahid Raza, Dr. Syed Hasan Qayed, Dr. Muzaffar Hussain, Dr. K M Ziyauddin, introduced guests. Instructional Media Centre’s team under the supervision of it’s Director, Mr. Rizwan Ahamd made arrangements of live streaming on youtube channel.
