Journalist deserve the utmost respect - Prof. Ainul Hasan Need not to worry about Urdu Journalism, said Amir Ali Khan International Conference concludes at MANUU

 

 The valedictory ceremony of three-day international conference in celebration of the bicentenary completion of Urdu Journalism was held today at Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU), Hyderabad. The conference was a part of the bicentenary celebrations titled ‘Karwan e Urdu Sahafat’. The number of participants in the Conference went upto 400.

 Prof. Syed Ainul Hasan, Vice-Chancellor, MANUU in his presidential address said that journalists deserve the utmost respect for the service they do to society. The students need to be exposed to field reporting, he added.

 The Chief Guest, Prof. Shafey Kidwai while commenting on the papers presented in the conference said though the glorious past of journalism is generally discussed in such conferences but in this conference attention was also paid to the essentials of journalism.

 Mr. Amir Ali Khan, the Managing Editor, Urdu daily Siasat said that we need not worry about the condition of Urdu journalism and that the strength of speaking truth to power was now left with Urdu journalists only.

 

Dr. Anand Raj Verma said that Urdu media must maintain a relationship with other languages. Mr. Satish Jacob said Urdu is the language of love and Urdu Journalism has served to unite the country. Scriptwriter Jama Habib opined that Muslimness needs to be separated from Urdu journalism. Mr. Shamim Tariq said that a lot of factors have been responsible for the decline of Urdu journalism. He pointed that the journalists and readers of Urdu need to preserve the language, and added that the script might be a hindrance in the propagation of Urdu but it’s grammar usage was increasing each day.

 Mr Qurban Ali said that Urdu journalism can be divided into two phases. The first one lasted till independence and the second being the post partition period. Mr. Imtiyaz Khaleel said that no doubt that Urdu has suffered in the post-partition but it was remarkable to see that journalism in the Urdu language had completed two centuries and people were celebrating it. He told the students that print media in any language is declining but online media was a big opportunity for passionate students to earn their names.

 Prof.  Ishtiaque Ahmed, Registrar, MANUU proposed vote of thanks. Prof. Ehtesham Ahmad Khan, Dean, School of Mass Communication and Journalism gave report of the conference. Prof. Mohammad Fariyad, Head, Department of Mass Communication and Journalism convened the programme.

 Two dramas were performed during the conference. Videos from 200 journalists were received at this celebration and a video-making competition was also organised.
