Profile of Deepak Kumar

Prof. Deepak Kumar is Honorary Professor at the Department of History, Maulana Azad National University, Hyderabad. 

He has popularised History of Science, Technology, Environment and Medicine for almost five decades both as a researcher and a teacher. He is known for his books, Science and the Raj, (OUP, Delhi, 1995); Vigyan aur Bharat mein Angrezi Raj (Granthshilpi, 1998), Prodyogiki aur Angrezi Raj (Granthshilpi, 2000), The Trishanku Nation (OUP, Delhi, 2016); Aatam Khabar: Sanskriti, Samaj aur Hum (Aakar Books, 2022), Technology and the Raj (reprint Aakar Books, 2022), Science and Society in Modern India (Cambridge, 2023), Culture of Science and the Making of Modern India (Primus Books, 2023). In addition, he has co-edited books on history of medicine, history of environment and history of education. He is the Founder-President of the Society for the History of Science, in Kolkata, also holds an Honorary Professorship at the Maulana Azad National Urdu University, Hyderabad.
