Profile of Mushtaq Ahmad Kaw

Prof Mushtaq Ahmad  Kaw, who superannuated from MANUU in 2019,  is a versatile scholar of History specializing on modern and contemporary history of South and Central Asia. He has teaching experience of over 34 years and five books and over 75 articles and research papers to his credit. He has successfully supervised 14 Ph.D and 15 M.Phil on various themes of critical importance. He has visited over a dozen countries including USA and Germany and some of the Central Asian countries, area of his specialization, for academic purposes. He has vast administrative experience of almost 20 years.  In recognition of his academic and administrative credential, Prof. Kaw was empanneled as the candidate for the Vice Chancellor of three important universities by the High-Powered Selection Committees.

Prof. Kaw   joined MANUU in 2015 as Professor of History and became founder Head of the department of History., where he continued to serve till his superannuation in 2019. He contributed significantly to the development of MANUU as Head of the Department of History by successfully tackling challenges in the establishment of a new department and left his deep imprint on the evolution and growth of the department, besides contributing to the overall development of MANUU as the Dean Students’ Welfare. 

Before joining MANUU, Prof. Kaw taught at the University of Kashmir for almost 30 years and also played important role in the corporate life of the university by performing various administrative roles such as the Director of the Centre for Central Asian Studies,  Dean, College Development Council,  and also as the Chief Proctor.
