National Conference on Sufi Saint Khaja Bandanawaz begins at MANUU


A national conference on the life and services of well known Sufi Saint, Khaja Bandanawaz began today at MANUU with a call to highlight the social reform aspect of his teachings. The Dept. of Persian, Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) is organizing two day conference with the support from National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language (NCPUL).
Prof. S M Rahmatullah, Vice-Chancellor I/c in his presidential address of the conference “Khaja Bandanawaz Gesu Daraz, sayings, Letters, Publications, Teachings and Services: with reference to Persian sources” emphasized the need to understand the message of tolerance and peaceful co-existence propagated by Sufi Saints like Khaja Bandanawaz. His teachings needed to be followed in true spirit, he said. 
The Guest of Honour, Prof. Sk. Ishtiaque Ahmed, Dept. of Persian, JNU in his address shed light into long lasting contribution made by Sufi saints of Deccan in enriching Persian language & literature.
Prof. Arif Ayubi, Chairman, Fakhruddin Ali Ahmad Memorial Committee & Department of Persian, Lucknow University while speaking as the chief guest described Hazrat Khaja Bandanawaz as a great scholar of the ninth century.
Prof. Abdul Hameed Akbar, Head, Dept. of Urdu & Persian, Khaja Bandanawaz University (KBNU) in his keynote address said the Sufi saint Khaja Bandanawaz used to teach books like Fusus-ul-Hakam, IshqNama, Haqiqat-e-Muhammadi to his disciples and also penned details of these books in Persian language. He also wrote magazines in Arabic, Persian and Deccan. 
Dr. Aquil Ahmad, Director, NCPUL and the other guest of honours - Aghai Ustad Dr. Nematullah Iranzada, Iran and Aghai Dr. Ali Razapur Mohammad, Bulgaria also spoke on the occasion . 
Earlier, Prof. Aziz Bano, Head, Department of Persian delivered the welcome address and Prof. Shahid Naukhez, Director of the conference convened the inaugural session. Dr. Syeda Asmath Jahan, Assistant Professor proposed vote of thanks.
The conference is being webcast live on IMC, MANUU youtube channel.


Prestigious Fellowship to MANUU Faculty

Dr. Meraj Ahmed Mubarki, Assistant Professor, Department of Mass Communication & Journalism, Maulana Azad National Urdu University has been selected for the Research Fellowship Project by the prestigious National Film Archives of India, Pune. His research project 'Film Censorship in Colonial India 1920-1928' will study the colonial discourse on film censorship in Pre-Independence India. 
His book “Filming Horror: Hindi cinema, Ghosts and Ideologies” was published by Sage publications to much critical acclaim. His articles have been included in the reading list of the University of Sussex, United Kingdom; St. Paul’s University, Canada; the Central University of Gujarat, India and the University of California, Riverside, USA.   
MANUU Teaching fraternity has congratulated Dr. Meraj on his selection.
